The BAE 1023 Rack is based on the famous 1073. It is totally handwired using the same Carnhill (St. Ives) transformers as the vintage modules. It has the exact same mic/line preamp as the 1073, but with significantly more frequencies in the mid and hi sections - providing great flexibility when tracking and mixing, especially when the modules are used as outboard EQ's.

The BAE 1023 Rack is identical to the 1073 except that it has quite a few more choices in the mid and high EQ frequency bands. This certainly provides great flexibility when tracking and mixing, especially when the modules are used as outboard EQ's with the line input set at 0. So let's talk about what makes the 1073 so amazing.

The 1073 preamp yields a really fat sound. It seems to add subharmonics to the low end which makes the bottom end sound huge. It smooths the top end which gives the highs a silky sheen and compresses the transients a little bit. It is a smooth, fat., larger than life sound. An added bonus is to use the DI inputs to fatten samples, synths and mixes since the DI can handle line levels.

About the EQ Section :
The 1023 equalizer is very broad banded and musical. It has a hi-pass filter with four frequencies- 50 Hz, 80 Hz, 160 Hz and 300 Hz. The low frequency band is shelving and has four frequencies - 35 Hz, 60 Hz, 110 Hz and 220 Hz. The low end of this equalizer is so tight that you can boost 220 Hz and not muddy up the sound. The mid band has eleven frequencies - 160Hz, 270, 360, 510, 700, 1K6, 3K2, 4K8, 7K2, 8K2, 10K. The bandwidth is broad so you can boost or cut a lot without making things sound processed or unnatural. The hi band is shelving and you have the choice of 10K, 12K, 16K, 20K or 24K. It is smooth and silky and a little goes a long way.
