One of the hottest new products on the market is Digidesign’s Eleven Rack. For anyone who is not yet familiar to Eleven Rack it is a revolutionary guitar recording and effects processing system. Digidesign has spent years measuring every component of some of the best examples of vintage and modern amps. The result is one of the most impressive guitar amp and effects modeling systems ever released.
The modeling DSP for Eleven Rack resides in the rack itself. The advantage of the onboard DSP is threefold. First, Eleven Rack can be used “stand-alone” on stage or as a pre amp for playing live without the need of a computer. Second, when using Eleven Rack for recording or mixing the effects in Eleven Rack use no plug-in resources. And finally there are no annoying latency issues, Eleven Rack is responsive and feels (and sounds) like playing through your favorite amp.
Eleven Rack is a full featured USB Pro Tools LE interface and ships with Pro Tools 8 LE software. Which is a very cool thing. However Pro Tools HD users can get in on the fun and features of Eleven Rack too.
Pro Tools HD users simply connect the audio inputs and outputs from Eleven Rack to their existing HD audio interface and also connect the Eleven Rack USB to their computer. There will not be any audio traveling down the USB connection but the USB will communicate all of the control and metadata information to and from your Pro Tools HD environment. The control and metadata information now allows your Pro Tools HD system to change settings in Eleven Rack and also remember and instantly reset Eleven Rack for any session where you use Eleven Rack.
With all of audio I/O on Eleven Rack the possibilities are endless for tracking, mixing and re-amping guitars. With at an attractive price of $899 Eleven Rack looks like another big hit for Digidesign.
