The Surround Panner includes a panel that mounts easily in a pre-configured bay within the D-Control center section. Incorporating the Surround Panner into this center section lets you place sounds accurately from the monitoring sweet spot.
Touch-sensitive joystick, five rotary knobs, and nine switches
The Digidesign Surround Panner ES Option for Pro Tools gives you touch-sensitive control over the position of sounds in the field. A touch-sensitive joystick with a brushed aluminum handle is located at the bottom of the Surround Panner, and above there are five rotary knobs and nine switches, giving you complete hands-on control of surround panning, volume, mute, LFE, and more.
Intuitive Controls
The Surround Panner offers intuitive controls for easy, fingertip operation. Move sound sources by using the touchscreen, joysticks, or encoders. Control divergence — the amount the sound spreads to neighboring speakers — with a finger tip on the touchscreen or encoder. Large, easy-to-read on-screen soft buttons are used for linking, target selection, mode selection, and other often needed controls.
The touchable on-screen speaker icons let you place sounds at single speaker sources while the touchscreen enables you to enter “snap” automation moves anywhere in the panning field. The high-resolution color LCD display provides rich visual feedback for pan position and other on-screen functions.
Two touch-sensitive joysticks provide a familiar means of physical panning. Move the joystick cursor near the current location cursor or take over directly by pressing a Punch button to begin panning. Two encoders with their 15-segment LED rings give you fine control of any targeted parameter. Meanwhile, a cluster of hardware and software buttons let you access parameters and assign targets easily.
Custom assignment of non-pan-related controls make Sound Panner a useful tool for post mixers, sound designers, and music mixing engineers alike. Custom Assign mode lets you place any parameter in the Focused channel on the X or Y axis. You could, for example, assign gain and frequency of an EQ to X and Y axes on the Surround Panner to achieve dramatic filter sweeps with a finger tip or joystick.
Tight Integration with Pro Tools
Surround Panner works with Digidesign® Pro Tools® software to deliver robust capabilities for automated panning. A new AutoGlide function pans sounds automatically from one position to the next, helping you move sound in time. With one touch operation, you can write pan automation simply by pressing new locations in the Surround Panner window in real time, instead of manually moving the Surround Panner controls. The sound moves to the new location while the transport is running based on the adjustable AutoGlide Time preference. Combined with Glide Automation functionality in Pro Tools software, precise off-line automation can be created as well.

While the Digidesign Surround Panner ES Option was aesthetically styled to go with the ICON D-Command ES console, it works well with any of Digidesign's control surfaces, including the C|24, the 003 Factory, and the Command|8.
