Wunder Audio CM7
Large Diaphragm Multi-Pattern Tube Condenser Microphone
|
It’s no surprise that the Wunder Audio CM7 Tube Microphone is attracting lots of attention. Wunder has handcrafted this mic, to be a visual and sonic replica of the coveted U47. It comes standard with a Telefunken EF14 tube, and an M7 capsule, with two patterns (Cardiod & Omni), switchable from the grill. Every effort has been made to make this mic historically correct, from the interior and exterior metal work, to the large style U47 transformer, to the large Tuchel connector. All this, and it sounds magnificent!

The Wunder Audio CM7 is a historically-accurate reproduction of the early long-body Neumann U-47. Like the original, the CM7 has an M7 capsule and the full-sized U-47 transformer, and offers Cardioid and Omnidirectional pickup patterns. The Wunder Audio CM7 Tube Microphone comes with the original large-style U47 transformer that was used in the earlier U47's, including the legendary "Large Badge" U47. These first couple of hundred U47's are very sought after sonically. The CM7 transformer's larger size and high nickel content achieves better low end rolling off at 20 Hz, identical to the original U47 design, instead of 40 Hz. The smaller 40 Hz transformer that was used in later versions of the U47 was made with the 40 Hz roll-off as a requirement for the IRT (German Broadcasting Network). In modern day recording this capability to capture the low end frequencies is essential. Wunder Audio CM7 Features : - New Tuchel Connectors are used and are identical to the vintage U47

The Wunder Audio CM7 now offers an M7 capsule skinned in Germany by an ex-Neumann employee. You can can choose a 40-50 year old M7 capsule that is newly re-skinned to original spec. Another option is an early M7 with its original diaphragm. This is, however, not recommended as the 50 year old PVC has hardened and would not sound as it did when it left the factory. But with that said, we have matched the sound of one customers old completely stock "Large badge" U47 from 1950. We can also offer new or re-skinned KK47 capsules The problem with a vintage U47 is that the old transformer wire used PVC insulation. This insulation cracks over the years and depending on where, you can loose high or low frequency response. If the mic was stored in high humidity the PVC would of lifted up, bubbled, then cracked while drying out. If the mic were stored too dry the wire would simply have cracked The Point-to-Point Hook-up wire in an old U47 was also coated with PVC and is usually full of cracks. We use high-end Silver wire to wire up the entire mic.
