Josephson C42

Small Diaphragm FET Cardioid Condenser Studio Microphone, in Stainless Steel Finish
The C42 small capsule FET condenser is in a league of it's own. With great off-axis response and a presence rise in the high frequency, the C42 is one of the best newer-generation mics we've heard when micing drum overheads and acoustic guitar. The C42 can be used for spot micing, but it really shines when you pull it back a few feet from the source, where traditional mics can lose presence and imaging. Hear the air!

Josephson Engineering makes a wide range of fine condenser microphones for studio, stage and field sound pickup, and audio instrumentation. In the process of developing our own mics, we've come up with special technologies that let us realize designs that weren't possible in classic mics of years past.
This means that the expert user has a wider range of sound choices, without many of the compromises of older designs.

The Josephson Engineering C42 is an all-purpose cardioid condenser microphone suitable for multiple recording applications including spot miking acoustic and amplified instruments, drums and drum overheads, ensemble and choir pickups, concert recording, sound effects and vocals.
Standard C42 microphones are satin machined stainless steel for years of rugged use.

C42 electronics feature a selected discrete FET driving a fully balanced symmetrical transformerless discrete class-A output stage. The output impedance is low enough that very long cable runs may be used without signal degradation.
Although the microphone is specified for full P48 phantom power, it will function with phantom power as low as 24 volts, with some limitation in maximum SPL.

Also available is a stereo kit, the C42MP, includes a matched pair of C42 microphones in matte black chrome finish and a protective case. A special high sound pressure level version, the C42H, is available for use in very close sound pickup applications.
