It’s particularly popular on electric guitars because of the way it emphasises mid-range frequencies. It beefs them up and makes them more powerful.

It’s a sound that can’t be replicated with plugins. Although there are many great digital emulations of analogue gear, something about the SA-3A just cannot be replicated. Its sound is smoother than any plug-in version and can be pushed harder and still sound good.
